This collection was designed in 2009 and explored unique traditional crafts that had been passed down from generation to generation, creating a bond between today and our past cultures by reintroducing practices into a modern context.
The textile print compositions of the WORTHIS Tyche bags were made from a play of chance; from a series of designs derived from the simple act of cutting various patterned photocopies accrued in the studio into fragments and dropping the pieces from a distance, onto a blank page. The composition of the final print is scanned and hand-printed to fabric from the formation of the dropped elements on the blank ground. Abstract pattern created through chance and the placement of the human hand within mechanical processes is central to much of WORTHIS' design production.
This particular process acknowledges the wonderful painting Collage with Squares Arranged According to the Laws of Chance, ca. 1916-17 by Jean Arp. Both Jean Arp and his first wife, Sophie Taeuber-Arp are sources of inspiration to WORTHIS.
The bags are hand printed on heavy weight salt washed cotton canvas with tan leather trimmings & leather rope with wooden bead ends.

WORTHIS Ikat Duffel bags are individually hand crafted to order, fabric is hand dyed and hand woven. A run of Ikat fabric can take 6-12 months to complete, the cotton is harvested by hand then hand spun into thread. The thread is wound and measured, wrapped over an open wooden frame then each thread is individually dyed according to the designed pattern. The threads are then individually set up on the loom and woven.

Each pair of WORTHIS shoes are handmade one at a time and will pass through 160 separate processes from carefully cutting the calfskin to hand stitching the upper moccasins with waxed linen thread. The moccasins and boots are constructed entirely of leather.
Composition: 100% leather, including the sole.
